Benue Assembly Suspends Four Lawmakers Over Impeachment Plot

The Benue State House of Assembly has slammed a six-month suspension on four of its members over what it described as an attempt to impeach Speaker Aondona Dajoh.
Those affected are Alfred Berger, representing Makurdi North; Terna Shimawua, representing Kian; Cyril Ekong of Obi constituency; and James Umoru of Apa constituency.
The Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer, who raised a motion of urgent public importance during plenary, accused the lawmakers of trying to destabilize the Assembly with what he called “a needless crisis.” He therefore called for their suspension.
Following the adoption of the motion, Speaker Dajoh ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to escort the four lawmakers out of the chambers.
In a further shake-up, Dajoh announced the appointment of Audu Elias as the new spokesperson of the House, replacing Alfred Berger, who previously held the position.
