Ben Murray-Bruce Ends Common Sense Series After 10 Years and 500 Episodes

After a decade of civic conversations and 500 episodes of thought-provoking commentary, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has announced the conclusion of his widely followed Common Sense series — a platform that has challenged perspectives and amplified voices across Nigeria.
In his final broadcast, the former lawmaker reflected on the journey that began in 2015 and grew into a national dialogue.
“Fellow Nigerians, it is hard to believe we have already reached episode 500 and gone ten years down the line. It has been an extraordinary journey built on one simple, powerful belief: that honest, clear, and courageous conversations can inspire change — and that every Nigerian has the power to shape the future of our great nation.”
From the outset, Common Sense positioned itself as more than political commentary. It became a call for action — addressing pressing issues such as population growth, economic reform, renewable energy adoption, and smarter subsidy policies. Murray-Bruce repeatedly urged the shift from petrol subsidies to transportation support and championed the “Buy Naija” movement to protect the naira and strengthen local industries.
He credited the Nigerian public for making the programme a two-way conversation rather than a solitary broadcast.
“Your questions, comments, and even criticisms made this journey richer. I was never speaking into a void — I was speaking with you. With Nigerians everywhere who want a better tomorrow.”
Education remained central to his advocacy. His “Books, Not Bullets” mantra called for prioritising youth development over weapons or drugs. He also pushed for climate-conscious policies, proposing legislation to phase out combustion engines by 2035 in favour of electric vehicles, and frequently stressed the importance of harnessing Nigeria’s vast solar potential for energy, jobs, and economic sovereignty.
“Leadership isn’t confined to elected office. It’s a daily choice — a responsibility we all share in our homes, workplaces, and communities.”
Expressing gratitude to his audience, Murray-Bruce said:
“From the very first episode to this final moment, I have been inspired by the courage, wisdom, and passion of everyday Nigerians. Together, we made common sense more than a message — we made it a movement.”
While the series may have reached its conclusion, the senator assured Nigerians of his continued commitment to national development through other avenues.
“This is not goodbye — it is only the end of a chapter. I am Ben Murray-Bruce… and I just want to say, for the 500th time and the very last time — I just want to make common sense.”
