Be Disciplined or Face Sanctions, NYSC Lagos Official Warns Corps Members

The Head of Corps Discipline and Rewards at the NYSC Lagos Secretariat, Mrs. Victoria Akowonlehin, has issued a stern warning to corps members about the consequences of misconduct and absenteeism during the service year.
Speaking during a sensitization session, Mrs. Akowonlehin, who also serves as an Assistant Director, reminded corps members that the NYSC programme is anchored on four cardinal points: Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service (CDS), and the Winding-Up/Passing-Out Parade (POP). She emphasized that all four must be completed to qualify for a successful service year.
She cautioned that erring corps members would face disciplinary actions such as Camp Court trials, service extension, or full remobilization. Misconduct within the camp environment, she said, would not go unpunished, while absence from the Primary Place of Assignment (PPA) without proper documentation could attract serious sanctions.
According to her, corps members are not permitted to travel outside their state of deployment without prior approval from the State Coordinator. Unauthorized travel, she said, would be treated as a violation of NYSC rules.
On a positive note, Mrs. Akowonlehin encouraged corps members to remain diligent and committed, noting that exceptional performance could earn them recognitions like the State Coordinator’s Award, Governor’s Award, and even the prestigious Presidential Award.
She urged corps members to take their responsibilities seriously, stressing that Lagos offers vast opportunities for those willing to work hard and stay focused throughout the service year.
