Bariga Council Renames Streets, Honours Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, Olamide, 9ice, Bukayo Saka

The Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State has renamed several prominent roads and streets to honor influential figures in Nigeria’s political, entertainment, and sports scenes.
As reported by TheGazelleNews, the outgoing Chairman of the council, Kolade David Alabi, announced the changes on Friday, July 25, 2025 — his final day in office. The announcement coincided with the commissioning of major projects completed under his administration, an event attended by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Alabi stated that the street renaming was a tribute to individuals who have elevated the name of Bariga and Nigeria through their achievements and contributions.
“As an administration, we took our time to reflect on a number of people who have put the name of our local council on the global map through their respective God-given talents and craft, as well as eminent personalities in our nation, beloved state, and council who have contributed immensely to the development of the nation and the state,” he said.
The renamed roads and landmarks include:
- Ilaje Road → King Sunny Ade Road
- Bariga Road → Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way
- Community Road, Akoka → Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road
- Ajidagan Street → Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street
- Charly Boy Bus Stop → Baddo Bus Stop
- Ifeanyi Street → Abolore Akande (9ice) Street
- Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak → Tony Tetuila Street
- Ilojo Crescent, Obanikoro → Bukayo Saka Street
The renaming marks one of the final acts of Alabi’s tenure as Chairman of Bariga LCDA and Chairman of Conference 57, the umbrella body for local council chairmen in Lagos State.
