Baderinwa Charges Corps Members To Acquire Skills For Self-reliance

The NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs.Yetunde Baderinwa has charged Corps members to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme that NYSC has instituted to empower young graduates.
She noted that the programme was aimed at eradicating poverty and reducing unemployment to the barest minimum.
She also stated that acquiring a skill will provide the opportunity of being self employed instead of chasing after unavailable white collar jobs.
The State Coordinator gave this charge to the 2024 Batch B stream two Corps members deployed to Lagos during the flag-off ceremony of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme (SAED) at the orientation camp, Iyana-Ipaja.
Mrs Baderinwa while delivering an address on behalf of the Director, SAED,Mr Sunday Aroni listed the skill set available as Agro-allied, ICT, Cosmetology, Automobile, Satellite Security,Culinary and Cakes, Green Energy,Fashion Design amongst others.
The Director also informed the Corps members of the funding institutions who are in partnership with the Scheme offering finance and grants to Corps members with good business proposals.
Earlier, the Head of SAED,Mrs Nweke Stella in her welcome address has given the overview of SAED programme which she expressed was aimed at equipping corps members with skills to create wealth and be self-reliant,thereby contributing to the nation’s economic growth.
She enjoined Corps members to key into the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme and utilize the opportunity of acquiring a skill free of charge in Camp.
She said they will undergo in-camp training for nine days and after the orientation exercise they can proceed to perfect whatever skills they have chosen which is referred to as post camp training.
During the programme a motivational lecture was delivered by the MD CEO of New Horizons,Mr.Timothy Akano.
He emphasized the importance of skill acquisition over traditional degree certificates, reinforcing the concept of “Sabificate.”
He further went on to outline four core principles for aspiring “Sabificate” entrepreneurs, including ensuring scalable and globalized ideas, understanding the platform economy, building a competent team, and following one’s passion.
The highlight of the event featured eight corps members receiving scholarship awards for the funding of their post camp training in whatever skills they have chosen having actively participated in the session.
While concluding his lecture,Akano gave Kudos to the Scheme and emphasized that the lessons learnt from the lecture are real and will shape the future of the corps members.
