Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, Dies at 91

The Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has passed away at the age of 91.
The highly respected monarch died on Sunday, just hours after the death of his longtime friend, former President Muhammadu Buhari, was officially announced.
Born on May 10, 1934, Oba Adetona was installed as the Awujale on April 2, 1960, making him one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning traditional rulers. He belonged to the House of Anikinaiya, a prominent royal lineage in the Ijebu Kingdom.
Until his passing, he served as the paramount ruler of Ijebuland, a historic and culturally significant region in southwestern Nigeria.
His death marks the end of an era for the Ijebu people and the traditional institution he led for over six decades.
