Asolo of Isolo Enlightens NYSC Corps on Lagos Culture

Dr. John Adebayo Adeyemi, the Asolo of Isolo, has told Lagos corps members that Lagos Culture accommodates all , charging them to embrace its diverse heritage.
Represented by Prince Ayodele Oyekan, the Bajulaiye of Lagos State , stated this while on a visit to the NYSC orientation camp in Iyana-IPaja, where he enlightened 2023 Batch “C” Stream II corps members about the culture and traditions of Lagos State.

Prince Oyekan delved into the historical origins of Lagos and traced it back to the Aworis, the city’s first occupants. He debunked the myth that Lagos belongs to no one and confirmed that it is a city for all, inviting everyone to embrace its diverse heritage.

He implored corps members to learn the culture of any community in which they are posted because culture is an element of unity.
Prince Oyekan highlighted Lagos’ five divisions, Ikeja, Badagry, Epe, Lagos Island, and Ikorodu, each with unique festivals including Eyo, Egungun, Oro, Kayo-Kayo, Okosi, Gelede, and others. These festivals contribute to Lagos’ cultural identity..

In closing, he urged the corps members to actively engage in these community festivals while upholding and respecting the traditions and regulations governing these celebrations.
The lecture also featured a welcome greeting from corps members as well as a traditional royal chant presentation in honour of his majesty.
