APC Governors Hold Crucial Closed-Door Meeting Ahead Of NEC Session

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) convened a closed-door meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, as preparations intensify ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The ongoing meeting is being held at the residence of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who also serves as Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
The gathering is believed to be a strategic session ahead of Thursday’s NEC meeting scheduled to take place at the Presidential Villa. Among early arrivals were Governors Babagana Zulum (Borno), Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and Monday Okpebholo (Edo).
Also in attendance are Governors Bassey Otu (Cross River), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Hyacinth Alia (Benue), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Usman Ododo (Kogi), and Senator Uba Sani (Kaduna).
Though the official agenda of the meeting remains undisclosed, sources suggest discussions may center around the selection of a new APC National Chairman following the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje in June. Ganduje stepped down citing the need to focus on personal health matters, leaving a leadership vacuum at a critical time for the party.
The acting National Chairman, Ali Bukar Dalori, is expected to present key updates during Thursday’s NEC meeting, including ratification of congress schedules, committee formations, and the status of the ongoing e-registration exercise across the 36 states.
Meanwhile, internal party debates continue over where the next national chairman should emerge from. While some advocate for the position to remain in the North-West—Ganduje’s zone—others insist it should revert to the North-Central, its original zoning, to maintain equity and party balance. Among names being floated is NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, adding a new twist to succession talks.
