Anambra School Wins First UK-Nigeria Debate Competition, Defeats Top UK and Nigerian Schools

St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, Anambra State, has brought pride to Nigeria by emerging as the overall winner of the inaugural UK-Nigeria Debate Competition.
The online debate, held on June 19, 2025, featured high-performing schools from both Nigeria and the United Kingdom in a series of intellectually challenging rounds.
Representing Nigeria were Britarch Schools and Sure Start School (both from Abuja), St. Augustine’s College (Jos), and St. John Vianney Science College (Anambra). Competing from the UK were Central Foundation Girls’ School, Maghull High School, and Shireland High School.
St. John Vianney stood out early in the competition, defeating Maghull High School and Central Foundation Girls’ School in successive rounds to reach the finals. There, they faced fellow Nigerian school, St. Augustine’s College, in a closely contested final debate.
The Anambra-based school delivered a compelling performance to secure the top spot, becoming the first-ever champions of the UK-Nigeria Debate Competition.
Their victory is being celebrated as a shining example of academic excellence and oratory skill on the global stage.
