American Singer, Ciara Receives Beninese Citizenship

American R&B singer Ciara has officially become a citizen of Benin Republic after tracing her ancestral roots to the West African nation.

She received her citizenship certificate on July 26, 2025, during a special ceremony marking the United Nations Day for Women and Girls of African Descent.

Sharing the proud moment on Instagram, Ciara posted videos from the event and declared, “Je suis béninoise” (I am Beninese).

She was warmly welcomed by President Patrice Talon and officials from the Office of Benin Tourism. Expressing her gratitude, she wrote:

“July 26, history was made. On this year’s United Nations International Day of Women and Girls of African Descent, I was honored to receive Beninese citizenship, becoming the first person in the world granted nationality under this new initiative!
