Alumnus Commissions Modern Bus Stops at AE-FUNAI

In a show of commitment to student welfare and campus improvement, Clergy Construction Limited has commissioned two brand‑new bus shades at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu‑Alike (AE‑FUNAI).
The project was initiated under the leadership of Clergy Cornelius Chikaodili—former SUG Director of Welfare (2021/2022)—and executed by his company as part of efforts to enhance campus life.
The newly constructed shelters are named the Prof. S. O. Elom Bus Stop, in honour of AE‑FUNAI’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Oge‑Elom, in recognition of his transformational leadership, and the Clergy Construction Bus Stop, a lasting symbol of the company’s commitment to community development and youth empowerment.
The project was facilitated by Comrade Anukaenyi Peter C. (Piro), former SUG Director of Transport (2020/2021), and officially commissioned under the current SUG administration led by His Excellency, Sen. Ngwu Sopuruchi Victor, for the 2024/2025 academic session.
In his commissioning address, Chikaodili said the structures are much more than places of shelter: “They are symbols of progress, collaboration, and vision.” As an alumnus who has served in student leadership, he expressed deep gratitude to the university management, the student body, past and present student leaders, for their support.
The new bus stops will help ease the daily commuting strain on students, especially those waiting for transportation under unfavourable weather conditions. For many, the shades signify improved convenience and safety.
AE‑FUNAI management congratulated Clergy Construction Ltd. for the initiative, noting that privately backed infrastructure that serves the student population complements the university’s own development plans.
The commissioning of these bus shades comes during a period of several campus infrastructure improvements at AE‑FUNAI. Just recently, the university witnessed a number of significant developments, including partnerships and environmental programmes.
Some students expressed delight at the development. A 300‑level student, speaking anonymously, said the bus shades will reduce waiting time stress, especially during rainy periods, and will promote orderly queueing at bus stops. Others called on the university and student leadership to ensure maintenance, cleanliness, and perhaps expansion of the project to other key points on campus.
