Alibaba Slams Unprofessional Comedians Over Offensive Jokes at Corporate Events

Veteran comedian Alibaba has voiced concern over what he describes as a growing lack of professionalism among some Nigerian comedians, particularly in corporate settings.
Speaking in a recent interview, the comedy pioneer shared a troubling experience where a comedian made an inappropriate joke about a company chairman’s plus-size wife during a formal event.
According to Alibaba, the joke — which implied the woman would be impossible to carry in a race — crossed the line of decency and damaged the comedian’s reputation.
“One of the company heads called me to complain that the comedian said, ‘If a race happens now and everyone has to carry their wives and run, you can’t carry this woman and run,’” Alibaba recounted. “That’s below the belt.”
When he confronted the comedian about the incident, Alibaba said the comic dismissed the criticism and even accused him of jealousy. “He told someone I was only calling him out because he was shining. Can you imagine?”
While refusing to name those involved, Alibaba stressed that some comedians lack basic decorum and often ignore corrections. “There are about three Nigerian comedians I can’t stand,” he admitted. “They insult sensibilities. You try to correct them, they won’t listen. You send them to a corporate event, and they do dirty jokes. When you confront them, they downplay it.”
Alibaba called on comedians to understand their audience and embrace intelligent humor, especially in professional environments, warning that careless jokes can ruin not only events but careers.
“I choose not to mention names because I don’t want to destroy anyone’s hustle,” he added. “But we must do better.”
