ALGON Chairman Donates Transformer to NYSC Ebonyi Orientation Camp, Ends Years of Power Outage

The Ebonyi State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Prince Uburu Chinedu, has donated a brand-new electricity transformer to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Afikpo, bringing an end to years of blackout at the facility.
The transformer, which had long been the missing link in restoring full electricity to the camp and its surrounding community, was officially handed over to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) authorities during a brief but symbolic ceremony. The donation also includes the complete installation cost, fully covered by the ALGON Chairman.
For years, the NYSC orientation camp in Afikpo operated without electricity due to a combination of infrastructure decay and lack of power facilities. A recent intervention by the Ebonyi State Government, led by Governor Francis Nwifuru, saw major investments poured into electrifying the local government area and connecting it to the national grid. However, the absence of a dedicated transformer for the NYSC camp stalled full restoration of electricity—until now.
According to the NYSC State Coordinator, who had earlier appealed for support, the transformer will significantly improve camp operations and the overall well-being of corps members. The Coordinator also recommended the installation of solar-powered security lights to safeguard the transformer—a proposal the ALGON Chairman immediately approved, pledging to complete the solar installation within the coming week.
Speaking at the handover, Prince Uburu Chinedu emphasized the importance of proactive leadership and partnership in driving grassroots development. He praised Governor Nwifuru for granting local government chairmen the autonomy needed to address community needs effectively, and he commended the NYSC management for trusting ALGON’s capacity to deliver.
The Chairmen of Afikpo and Edda LGAs also lauded Prince Uburu’s gesture, describing it as a model of responsible and impactful leadership.
The donation is one in a series of support initiatives being extended to the NYSC camp by the state government and its partners. Other interventions include the construction of a new camp clinic, a female hostel complex, and the donation of an official vehicle to the Coordinator—all aimed at improving service delivery and corps members’ welfare.
