Akpoti-Uduaghan Serves Out Six Months Suspension

Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has served out the six months suspension slammed on her on the 6th of March 2025 by the senate over alleged violation of its rules.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had relentlessly contested the suspension, arguing that the action taken by the leadership of the senate is a direct consequence of her petition accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.
The suspension, which barred the Kogi lawmaker from legislative activities, the National Assembly complex, and the use of official resources, generated divergent opinions among Nigerians with the senator contesting the decision, asserting that conditions contained in the suspension are a violation of her rights and aimed at denying her Senatorial District representation
Four months after her suspension, precisely on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, Akpoti-Uduaghan stormed the National Assembly complex in an attempt to enforce a judgement by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja insisting that the court ordered the senate to recall her.
This move was met with strong resistance from the National Assembly, with the Senate Spokesperson, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, in a statement, explaining that the certified true copy of the judgement showed no evidence of such directive.
Now that the embattled senator has served out her suspension, there are expectations that the senate will come up with a resolution on the matter upon resumption from its annual recess
