Senate President Godswill Akpabio returned to Nigeria on Monday morning after a brief vacation in London, putting to rest widespread rumours about his health.

Akpabio, who attended the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva from July 29 to 31 before traveling to London, arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 4:00 a.m., where he was received by senators, aides, and supporters.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, he assured Nigerians of “robust legislative engagements” as the National Assembly prepares to resume plenary. He also defended the strong Nigerian delegation at the International Parliamentary Union meeting in Geneva, promising “more derivatives of democratic governance and effective collaboration with the other arms of government.”

The return follows earlier denials by Senator Gbenga Daniel and Akpabio’s media aide, Jackson Udom, who dismissed reports that he had been hospitalised.

On the health rumors, Akpabio remarked: “If you listen to the social media, you will go to war.”
