Agbelusi Leads Call for Abitogun’s Accountability as Residents Cry Out for Change

Frustration is mounting in Akure South Constituency 2 as youths and stakeholders accuse their representative at the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Barrister Abitogun, of gross inaction and neglect.

The growing discontent has led to calls for immediate accountability, with constituents warning that a recall process could be initiated if tangible results are not seen within the next six months.

Leading the charge is Comrade Samuel Agbelusi, Secretary-General of NAUS ONDO CMC and former PRO & General Secretary of the NAAS National Body, who, in a strongly worded statement made available to the press, criticised Hon. Abitogun’s lack of developmental projects, legislative engagement, and responsiveness to the needs of his people.

“As a former PRO and General Secretary at NAAS National Body, we have not seen any action from Hon. Abitogun that suggests he is committed to the progress of Akure South Constituency 2,” Agbelusi stated. “While lawmakers in other constituencies are sponsoring bills, distributing JAMB forms, initiating empowerment programs, rehabilitating roads, and improving education, our representative has done absolutely nothing.”

According to Agbelusi, Hon. Abitogun has neither proposed a single bill nor sponsored a motion to address the pressing challenges in his constituency. He described the lawmaker as “the most inactive member of the House,” a record that no constituency should have to endure.

“The only thing we see is Hon. Barrister Abitogun’s silence—an eerie and deafening silence that speaks volumes about his inaction,” he said. “If representation was meant to be invisible, then why do we elect leaders?”

The call for action comes amid growing concerns over unemployment, insecurity, poor infrastructure, poverty, and the deteriorating state of education in the constituency.

The youths argue that their representative has failed to utilize his position to push for policies and projects that would improve their lives.

Agbelusi emphasized that this is not a personal attack but a demand for good governance. He warned that if Hon. Abitogun does not take immediate steps to address these concerns, a recall process will be initiated.

“We cannot afford to let history repeat itself, where our representatives come, sit, and do nothing, only to resurface when elections draw near. We have had enough,” Agbelusi declared.

The statement also called on traditional rulers, community elders, and key stakeholders to intervene and ensure that the lawmaker is held accountable.

With public outcry growing, all eyes are now on Hon. Abitogun to see whether he will respond to the concerns raised or continue with what has been described as a pattern of non-performance.
