Adekunle Gold Gifts N250,000 Each to First-Class Graduates, Sparks Mixed Reactions

Singer Adekunle Gold has gifted several first-class graduates N250,000 each as part of a surprise initiative to celebrate academic excellence.
The 37-year-old artist made the announcement via social media, urging graduates who finished with first-class honors to post their transcripts.
“If you graduated with First class, post your transcripts,” he wrote.
The call quickly gained traction, with numerous graduates sharing their credentials. Adekunle Gold then selected some of them for the cash reward.
One beneficiary revealed she had just N1,700 left in her bank account before the unexpected windfall, expressing deep gratitude to the singer.
While many applauded the gesture as a rare show of support for academic achievers, others criticized it for excluding students with lower grades. Some users also raised concerns over possible scams and called for more inclusive or structured support for students.
The initiative has since sparked debate online, with opinions divided over the selection process and the best ways to empower young Nigerians.
