Abia Governor Alex Otti Says He Will Consult God Before Deciding on 2027 Re-Election Bid

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State says he will seek divine guidance before making a decision on whether to run for a second term in 2027.

Speaking over the weekend at a civic reception organized by the Oha Isiala Ngwa people from Isiala Ngwa North and South LGAs, Otti said any decision regarding his political future will be made public at the right time. The event was held to appreciate the administration’s performance, particularly its ongoing projects in the two local government areas.

“Just like 2023 was in the hands of God, 2027 will also be in the hands of God,” Otti told the gathering. “While I thank you for this endorsement — which I see as an endorsement of what has been achieved so far — I would only say that I would go back and consult with my God. As time goes on, my response will be made public.”

Otti emphasized his focus remains on fulfilling his current mandate. He also highlighted his administration’s heavy investment in infrastructure in Aba, describing the city as the commercial heartbeat of the state and a key driver of internally generated revenue.

“Our concentration on Aba is because we know it has the capacity to generate revenue for us to develop other parts of the state,” he said. “Aba occupies a prime place in our strategy, not just for Abia, but also for the entire South-East and South-South regions.”

He reassured residents of his commitment to balanced development across all zones, adding that no area of the state would be neglected. He announced that the Mgboko–Ntigha road project would be completed by December.

Addressing the siting of the Abia airport project in Nsulu, Otti said the decision was informed by technical assessments, not political considerations. He noted that full compensation had already been paid to affected landowners.

The governor also used the occasion to welcome new members into the Labour Party, including defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Accord Party, and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

In a final announcement, Otti revealed plans to upgrade the Sam Ihesiulor Stadium to a standard sports facility, and directed the commissioners for works and for youth and sports to begin the process immediately.
