Abandoned Newborn Sparks Outrage in Ikwo Community Near FUNAI Campus

Tension and outrage are growing in a host community of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (FUNAI) after a newborn baby was reportedly found abandoned in the open during heavy rain and cold weather.
A Facebook user, Dacyn Cynthiky, who shared the disturbing incident on social media, lamented the worsening social problems in the area, which she partly attributed to the presence of the university. According to her account, residents woke up to discover the unclothed baby lying on the bare ground within the community.
“This federal university (FUNAI) in this our community has done more harm than good to us,” she wrote. “Tell me why I woke up this morning and this newborn baby is lying on our land without cloth under this rain and cold.”

Cynthiky questioned why any mother would carry a pregnancy to term only to abandon the child in such a cruel manner. She added that the joy she once felt in returning home had disappeared since the institution was established nearby.
“Coming home is no longer fun for me as it used to be since this federal university entered,” she lamented.
While the identity of the baby’s mother remains unknown at the time of this report, concerned residents have called on security agencies and child welfare authorities to investigate the incident, ensure the safety of the child, and address any underlying social issues that may be fueling such acts.
