AAUA Senior Staff Abducted by Gunmen in Ondo State- Police

Suspected kidnappers have abducted Mr. Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a senior administrative staff of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State.
The incident occurred Monday night at his residence in Supare-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area, shortly after he returned from work.
Mr. Eleyinmi, who is the Faculty Officer in the Faculty of Education and a member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), was seized by armed men who reportedly stormed his home, firing sporadically to scare away residents.
Confirming the abduction, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, told reporters in Akure on Tuesday that two AAUA staff members were kidnapped, but one has already been rescued.
“Two AAUA staff were abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers. However, our men responded quickly and were able to rescue one,” Ayanlade said.
He also noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, had ordered that the rescued staff member be debriefed for intelligence purposes, and that efforts were ongoing to secure the release of Mr. Eleyinmi.
A senior lecturer at the university, who requested anonymity, explained that the assailants stormed the victim’s compound around 7:00 p.m.
“One of our SSANU members, Mr. Omoniyi Eleyinmi was kidnapped at his residence this evening at Supare-Akoko. He had just returned from work when the incident occurred,” the source stated.
According to Mr. Eleyinmi’s wife, who narrowly escaped the attack, the gunmen had already arrived before her husband returned home.
She recounted how the attackers opened fire in the compound before grabbing Mr. Eleyinmi and dragging him away as soon as he stepped in.
“He was not at home when the attackers first arrived. They were still shooting when he came back, and he was taken immediately,” she explained.
As of the time of filing this report, Mr. Eleyinmi’s whereabouts remain unknown. Police operations are reportedly ongoing in the area to track down the abductors and secure his release.
