The Media Office of the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, has dismissed claims by activist Omoyele Sowore in a viral video where he confronted the Minister at the Police Headquarters.
The office said the video misrepresents an ongoing police investigation linked to allegations made by Mrs. Tracy Ohiri last year over alleged assault and unpaid campaign materials. It described her accounts as “inconsistent, contradictory, and lacking coherence.”
Clarifying the Minister’s role, the statement stressed that the Nigeria Police Force acted on a petition submitted by the Minister’s lawyer in line with standard procedure, and that the Minister did not deploy police to settle personal scores. Mrs. Ohiri was arrested and the Minister invited for statements, the statement said.
The office also criticized Sowore’s actions as “performative activism aimed at gaining attention rather than seeking truth,” noting that the Minister “calmly disengaged” and remained committed to transparency, the rule of law, and uninterrupted delivery of national infrastructure projects.
Francis Nwaze, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister (Media), signed the statement.
