7 political parties form ‘coalition’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and five other parties have come together to form the Coalition of Concerned Political Parties (CCPP) in Abuja.
The five others are the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
At a meeting on Wednesday at the National Secretariat of the SDP, leaders of the seven political parties came together to form the movement known as “the Coalition of Concerned Political Parties (CCPP)” in Abuja.
The chairman of the SDP, Shehu Gabam told newsmen after the meeting that the coalition is not against the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).
IPAC is a platform for political parties to address shared concerns, exchange best practises, and strive for consensus on national issues.
Also, the acting National Secretary of the PDP, Setonji Koshoedo, who represented the acting party’s National Chairman, Umar Damagum, said the coalition wants to offer strong opposition for the good of Nigeria.
He explained that their duty is to offer alternative solutions to government policies.
They further stated in the statement that the agreement among them should not be seen as a merger but rather a coalition.
Last month former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, who was defeated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu called for a merger of opposition parties against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
