400 residents get free kidney screening in Kwara

At least 400 residents of Kwara state have been screened for kidney diseases to improve their health
Dr AbdulKadir Bola the Chief Medical Director, Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, stated this while Flagging off the exercise on the celebration of World Kidney Day held at the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, Ilorin.
According to Dr Bola, the event is marked in collaboration with Renal Study Group of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, to commemorate 2025 World Kidney Day.
He underscored the vital role of early detection and intervention in preventing kidney disease and its severe complications.
He also revealed that the 2025 event will feature sensitization and screening, which is done to harp on early detection, reduce the burden of kidney disease and sustain healthy living.
Dr Bola equally described kidney disease as a growing global health problem that affects millions of people.
He explained that 10% of the world’s population is affected by chronic kidney disease with millions of people dying every year because of lack of access to affordable treatment.
Professor Timothy Olarewaju, the Coordinator, Ilorin Renal Study Group, called Kidney disease a silent killer that progresses without symptoms until it’s too late.
Professor Olarewaju stressed that early detection is crucial, adding that there is need to increase awareness and encourage people to get screened without delay.
