22-Year-Old Man Dies After Alleged Torture Over Stolen Power Bank in Imo State

A 22-year-old man has reportedly died in Owuelu Uratta, located in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, following a brutal incident in which he was allegedly tortured over the theft of a power bank.
The disturbing event came to light through a video shared on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). In the footage posted by user @ChuksEricE, the young man is seen tied against a wall and repeatedly assaulted by a man wearing a white shirt. Despite pleading and apologizing, the beating reportedly continued for several minutes.
According to the video’s caption and subsequent commentary, the young man later died as a result of the torture he endured.
The footage has sparked widespread outrage online, with many Nigerians calling for justice and condemning the violent act. Here are some of the reactions from X users:
- @Refactored: “These individuals should be arrested and charged. This barbarism must end.”
- @justsociety4all: “I am not watching ooo it will ruin the rest of my day. For an ordinary power bank? All that participated in that torture must be jailed.”
- @Tobicods: “But they would rather praise a corrupt politician and let him go scot-free instead. We deserve our leaders, to be honest.”
- @polo_gee91: “Crazy how Nigerians are still fighting over a power bank in 2025. Meanwhile, neighboring countries moved past this decades ago.”
- @NwokeAkwaeze: “Normally, we behave like animals. When you ask them now, they’ll say they’re getting justice.”
