2025 Resolutions: What’s on Your Mind?

For many, the start of 2025 is more than just a change in the calendar, it is a moment of reflection, ambition, and hope. Resolutions, whether whispered to oneself or boldly declared or even written hold the promise of growth and change and a fresh beginning.
But what’s driving people into this new year? Is it the pursuit of personal goals, larger accomplishments, or simply the desire to embrace something new? Our correspondent at Asiwaju media asked people from all walks of life to share what’s on their minds as they step into 2025. Their answers, as diverse as their individual backgrounds, paint a picture of people striving for meaning and progress ahead.
Building a Business Empire
For Sani Hakim, a 27-year-old graduate of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, the new year is all about financial independence and establishing a strong foothold in business.
“Last year, my goal is to make as much money as possible and establish myself in a clothing business,” he said. “I will ensure I get this done and give myself a sense of fulfillment before the new year runs out”.
Excelling Academically is for Maryam Usman, a 200-level student in the Department of Nursing Sciences, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto is determined to make 2025 a year of academic success and self-development.
“All my focus is on my academics next year. I’ll work hard to improve on my first-year results and get involved in volunteering to build my capacity, I will ensure I avoid any form of distraction.” She shared.
Achieving Academic Excellence and Easing Financial Burdens
For Adedeji Abdullahi, a 300 level student of the Department Surveying and Geoinformatics, University of Ilorin, the new year is about balancing academic achievements with practical goals that make life easier.
“My goals are to achieve academic excellence, build more relevant connections, and seek scholarships to ease financial burdens on myself and my family. I’ve tried securing scholarships this year in futility, however, I won’t back out on my dream in the new year” he explained.
Seeking Stability Abroad
Aliu, a 27-year-old engineer, has set his sights on a life-changing move in 2025. His plans reflect both professional ambition and personal growth.
“I’m willing to seek asylum outside the country. It’s a work in progress, and I pray everything works out well for me next year,” he said.
