19-Year-Old Miss Aaue Samuel Olubari Becomes Youngest Councillor Ever Elected in Rivers State

Miss Aaue Samuel Olubari, a 19-year-old All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, has etched her name in history by winning a councillorship seat in Rivers State.
The Rivers State Local Government elections took place on Saturday, August 30, 2025, across 6,866 polling units in 319 wards, electing local government chairpersons and councilors to replace administrators appointed in April 2025. The elections followed the Supreme Court’s annulment of the previous council polls held on October 5, 2024.
The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) announced that the APC secured victories in 20 out of 23 local government areas, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in Obio/Akpor, Ogba/Egbema/Ndon, and Port Harcourt City. APC candidates also triumphed in Ahoada East, Asari Toru, Ikwerre, Bonny, Degema, Eleme, Etche, Gokana, and Khana LGAs.
Olubari contested for the councillorship of Bangha Ward 7 in Khana LGA. She had been formally introduced to APC leaders and stakeholders by the Khana LGA Chairman, Hon. Barile Ebenezer, during a ward-to-ward sensitization campaign just days before the election.
At 19, Olubari was the youngest candidate in the Rivers State Local Government elections, highlighting a remarkable achievement in youth political participation.
The elections saw widespread participation from multiple parties, including APC, PDP, Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Zenith Party, Accord, African Action Congress, Action People’s Party (APP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Action Alliance, Youth Party, Young Progressive Party, New Nigerian People’s Party, National Rescue Movement, and Allied People’s Party.
