19-year-old girl commits suicide In Ikorodu over ‘low’ UTME score

A heartbreaking tragedy occurred this week as 19-year-old Opesusi Faith Timilehin, a resident of Odogunyan in Ikorodu, Lagos State, took her own life after receiving a disappointing score of 190 in the recently-released Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.
Faith, originally from Abeokuta, Ogun State, had applied to study Microbiology and was devastated by her result, which she felt was enough to secure admission.
A close family friend revealed that Faith had sat for the same examination last year, scoring better than her most recent attempt.
“She was very disappointed. She kept saying last year’s result was better and that she had no hope again,” the friend explained.
On Monday, shortly after checking her result, Faith tragically ingested a toxic substance known as “Push Out” and was rushed to Kolak Hospital in Odogunyan, where she was confirmed dead.
Ironically, just 30 minutes after her passing, she received an admission offer via email from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), offering her a provisional place to study Microbiology.
“The shocking revelation is that she was given an admission message via her Gmail immediately after she was confirmed dead at Kolak Hospital,” a source said.
Her death has left the entire neighborhood in mourning, with residents describing her as humble, quiet, and well-behaved.
Upon hearing the devastating news, Faith’s parents traveled from Abeokuta to retrieve her body for burial.
Meanwhile, sympathizers and neighbors expressed their anger towards the examination body, blaming it for the emotional damage caused by what they described as mass failure in this year’s UTME.
