Poly Student Stabbed to Death in Bauchi Robbery Attack

A National Diploma II student of Mass Communication at Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi, has been killed by suspected robbers during an attack on an off-campus residence in the early hours of Friday.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants, believed to be two in number, scaled the back fence of the compound at about 2:40 a.m. while flashing bright torchlights. The compound, which accommodates eight students of the institution, was thrown into panic as the intruders stormed one of the rooms.
“The robbers barged into one of the rooms where two male students were watching a movie. The students tried to resist them, but unfortunately, one of them was stabbed during the struggle,” a female student living in the compound recounted.
The victim was rushed to the hospital but later died as a result of excessive bleeding.
Reacting to the incident, Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, who visited the scene alongside the Rector of the polytechnic, described the killing as unfortunate.
“We have arrested some suspects in connection with the crime, and we will leave no stone unturned in getting to the root of the matter,” Aliyu assured.
He further disclosed that additional security personnel have been deployed to the community and that plans are underway to establish a divisional police headquarters in Wunti Dada. The Commissioner also urged residents to immediately report suspicious activities or unfamiliar faces in their environment to the nearest police station.
The tragedy comes less than two weeks after another robbery incident at the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, where male students were attacked in their hostel, sparking a protest on campus.
