Nottingham Forest Appoint Ange Postecoglou as New Manager

Nottingham Forest have named Ange Postecoglou as their new manager following the dismissal of Nuno Espírito Santo after a fallout with club owner Evangelos Marinakis.
Nuno, who took over in December 2023, guided Forest to European qualification for the first time in three decades with a seventh-place Premier League finish last season. But tensions with Marinakis came to a head, making him the first top-flight coach to lose his job this campaign.
Postecoglou, 60, was himself sacked by Tottenham in June, just days after lifting the Europa League. Despite ending Spurs’ 17-year wait for silverware, he was dismissed after their worst domestic campaign since 1976/77, finishing 17th.
Marinakis, however, expressed confidence in his new hire’s credentials.
“We are bringing a coach to the club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies,” he said. “His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions.”
The Greek-born Australian has an impressive résumé, having won titles with Celtic, Yokohama Marinos, and during his tenure with Australia. His first test with Forest—currently 10th in the Premier League with four points from three matches—will be a daunting trip to Arsenal on Saturday.
Marinakis made it clear the ambition is to elevate Forest further after years of steady progress.
“After gaining promotion to the Premier League, then building consistently season after season to secure European football, we now must take the right step to compete with the very best and challenge for trophies,” he added. “Ange has the credentials and the track-record to do this, and we are excited he is joining us on our ambitious journey.”
Nuno’s exit followed months of strain. Cracks appeared when Forest missed out on Champions League qualification, with Marinakis seen confronting him on the pitch after a 2-2 draw with Leicester in May. Nuno later criticised the club’s transfer dealings, describing the squad as “unbalanced.”
In its official statement, Forest acknowledged his impact:
“Following recent circumstances, Nuno Espírito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as head coach. The club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at the City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the club.”
Postecoglou now steps in with the expectation of not just maintaining Forest’s European momentum but transforming them into genuine contenders at home and abroad.
