Love In Uniform: Soldiers Surprise Proposal Melts Hearts at NYSC POP in Jimeta-Yola

In an emotional twist that no one saw coming, a soldier turned a formal parade into a moment of pure magic — and stole the spotlight in Jimeta-Yola, Adamawa State.
It happened at the 2024 Batch B Stream II Passing-Out Parade (POP) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). While hundreds of corps members gathered at the Federal Secretariat Complex to celebrate the end of their service year, one man — Lance Corporal Ibrahim A. — had something more personal, more heartfelt, and far more unforgettable planned.
As the national anthem faded, and the last handshake with NYSC officials was done, the crowd began to relax. Then, with steady steps and a pounding heart, the soldier — dressed in crisp military uniform — walked up to a young woman standing among the corps members: Bilkisu, his longtime love.
Before anyone could guess what was about to happen, he dropped to one knee.
Gasps filled the air. Cameras went up. And in the middle of uniformed colleagues, NYSC officials, and stunned onlookers, Ibrahim looked up at her with a quiet smile and asked the question that changed the tone of the day.
With teary eyes and a radiant smile, Bilkisu said the word that set off a wave of cheers:
“Yes.”
The applause, the shouting, the chants — it all followed like a thunderstorm of joy. Fellow corps members rushed in to celebrate. Even security officers couldn’t hide their grins. The crowd had come to witness the end of service — but instead, they got a beginning.
The proposal quickly became the highlight of the day, outshining the formalities and going viral across social media. Videos and photos flooded the internet, with many Nigerians praising the couple for finding love amid service and sacrifice.

NYSC officials present at the event were moved by the moment. One senior official described it as a reflection of everything the Corps stands for:
“This is the spirit of service — building bridges, forming bonds, and sometimes, finding love.”
Though the day was meant to mark a farewell, for Lance Corporal Ibrahim and Bilkisu, it marked a fresh start.
Their story — born in the heart of national service — now stands as a beautiful reminder that even in the most disciplined spaces, love finds room to grow.
And as the sun set over Jimeta-Yola, one thing became clear: this was more than just a proposal. It was a promise. A future. A moment no one would forget.
