Ikwo Noyo Clan Releases Official Timetable for 2025 Nnesweoha Festival

The National Public Relations Officer of Ikwo Development Union (IDU), Chief Joseph A. N. Orogwu JP (Ugo-Nnia), has announced the official timetable for the 2025 Nnesweoha Festival, an annual cultural celebration of the Ikwo Noyo people of Ebonyi State.

According to the schedule, the Nnesweoha festivities will commence on Tuesday, 5th August 2025, with Igboji Ozuru-ola, the official day for Oye Ose Ukpara. This major traditional event will take place at Edukfu Noyo in Ekpeli and also marks the IDU/Council-approved general day for the Nnesweoha celebration.

On Wednesday, 6th August 2025, the festival will enter its most sacred phase—the Nnesweoha Cultural Day (Orie). On this day, the chief priest of Ili Noyo and the Ndi Ozo title holders will lead ancestral rites, offering symbolic meals to the forebears. These rituals cascade down to every family in the Ikwo Noyo Clan. The period between Orie and Nchonu is traditionally known as Ukata-apha le Unu-apha, a culturally enforced mourning window during which no burials or death announcements are permitted.

The festival continues on Friday, 8th August 2025, with Nchonu Ojinji, a significant traditional observance whose rites reaffirm the spiritual bond of the people with their ancestral heritage.

The climax of the celebration will hold on Saturday, 9th August 2025, with Eke Nwanekwa—the official new yam harvesting day in Ikwo Noyo. This day symbolizes the people’s gratitude for a bountiful harvest and the reaffirmation of communal unity.

In his message, Chief Orogwu encouraged all indigenes, especially those in the diaspora, to honour the festival and pass it on to their children. “Let us not allow our culture to extinguish in our hands,” he urged.

The Nnesweoha Festival remains a deeply rooted expression of the identity, spirituality, and agricultural tradition of the Ikwo Noyo people.
