APC Dismisses Claim of Being Labeled a Terrorist Organization by Canadian Court

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected reports circulating in the media that a Canadian court declared it a terrorist organization.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC described the claim as “patently erroneous, if not mischievous,” and urged Nigerians to disregard what it called misleading information.
The controversy followed a Canadian court ruling in the case of Douglas Egharevba vs. Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness. Egharevba had sought a judicial review after being deemed inadmissible to Canada under the country’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA).
According to the APC, the ruling made no declaration against the party. Instead, the court upheld the Immigration Appeal Division’s (IAD) decision concerning Egharevba’s past affiliation with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was linked to “acts of subversion” against democratic institutions in Nigeria.
“The only reference to APC in the 16-page judgment appeared in the background section, where the applicant claimed to have been a member of APC between 2007 and 2017,” the statement clarified. “This is factually inaccurate, as the APC was officially registered in 2013. Any claim of membership in 2007 is impossible.”
The party further explained that the presiding judge deliberately avoided addressing terrorism-related claims, noting that the subversion findings were sufficient to dismiss the case.
“We make bold to state that the court never made any determination on the question of terrorism in its decision,” the APC stressed, warning that any report suggesting otherwise was without merit.
The party maintained that the court’s judgment neither mentioned nor indicted the APC and called on the public to treat the reports as baseless and misleading.
