Ohaukwu LG Endorses Tinubu, Nwifuru, Onah, Agwu Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Ohaukwu Progressive Alliance, representing the people of Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, including prominent stakeholders has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, Rt. Hon. Chinedu Ogba Onah, and Hon. Mrs. Esther Agwu for another term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group also called on Chief Sunday Elechi Inyima, Commissioner for Capital City Development, to declare his interest in the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency seat, noting that, he has been loyal and supportive to the decision of the party for decades without roughening shoulders.

The endorsement was made during a well-attended political gathering held on March 24, 2026, at Izhiangbo Junction, where a large crowd of All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters from Ohaukwu and Ebonyi Local Government Areas turned out in solidarity.

The supporters, who came in their numbers, sang campaign songs and displayed placards expressing confidence in the leadership of the party at both state and federal levels.

Prominent personalities present at the event included the Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Prince Ikechukwu Odono; former Chairman, Associate Professor Mrs. Chinyere Elom; traditional ruler Eze Paul Ituma; APC chairmanship candidate for Ohaukwu, Barr. Emmanuel Egba (PhD); Secretary of the Ebonyi State Board of Internal Revenue Service; Special Assistant on Internal Security in Ohaukwu, Tobias Oge Ogbonna; Barr. Princess Angel Odono, Special Assistant on Students’ Mobilization to the Governor; and several Development Centre coordinators, including Mrs. Blessing Adagba, Hon. Uche Achi Okpaga, Mr. Ogbonna Ogbaga, Isaac Alike, and Moses Ogalagu, among others.

Several support groups were also in attendance, including the FON Youth Movement, City Boy Movement, Edu Youth Advocates, Amazing Grace Support Group, Ngbolizhia Women Support Group, and the Onwa Oferekpe Foundation, reflecting a broad-based grassroots mobilization across different segments of the society.

Moving the motion for endorsement, Hon. Emmanuel Nwankwo, Special Assistant to the Ohaukwu LGA Chairman, highlighted what he described as the remarkable achievements of President Tinubu’s administration in Ebonyi State. He cited the ongoing dualization of the Enugu–Abakaliki Road, which passes through Ohaukwu, as a critical federal project with direct economic benefits to the area.

He also commended Governor Nwifuru for restoring peace and stability in the state, particularly in Effium, and for driving development across key sectors such as agriculture, commerce, education, infrastructure, healthcare, and human capital development. According to him, these achievements justify the call for continuity beyond a single four-year tenure.

Hon. Nwankwo further urged Chief Sunday Elechi Inyima to contest the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency seat, describing him as a loyal party stalwart who has consistently demonstrated capacity, leadership, and commitment to public service. He noted that Chief Inyima had, on several occasions, stepped aside in obedience to party directives and deserved the opportunity to represent the constituency at the national level.

In addition, he reaffirmed support for Rt. Hon. Chinedu Ogba Onah, Deputy Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and member representing Ohaukwu South Constituency, as well as Hon. Mrs. Esther Agwu, representing Ohaukwu North Constituency. He stressed the importance of retaining Ohaukwu’s strategic position in the state leadership structure while also promoting gender inclusion and balance in governance.

Seconding the motion, Barr. Emmanuel Egba (PhD), Secretary of the Ebonyi State Board of Internal Revenue Service, alongside other stakeholders such as Barr. James Onah, Hon. Celestine Nwibo (Ebonyi LGA), Hon. Peter Nwenyim (Anioma), Hon. John Awoke (Effium), Hon. Peter Obah, and Associate Professor Chinyere Elom, threw their weight behind the endorsement. They collectively called on the APC leadership at the state and national levels to heed the aspirations of the Ohaukwu people in the party’s ticket allocation process.

Speakers at the event emphasized unity within the party and urged members to remain steadfast and committed to the ideals of the APC. They noted that early endorsement of candidates would help consolidate party structures, reduce internal conflicts, and strengthen grassroots mobilization ahead of the elections. The endorsement was affirmed by the mammoth crowd gathered in solidarity for their tested and trusted leaders.

Observers say the development signals a significant shift in the political dynamics of Ohaukwu Local Government Area, particularly as consultations and alignments intensify ahead of the APC primaries. The endorsement is also seen as a strategic move to position Ohaukwu prominently in the state’s political calculations.

As the 2027 election cycle gradually approaches, there is growing anticipation that Chief Sunday Inyima may resign from his current position as Commissioner for Capital City Development to formally declare his candidacy for the House of Representatives, a move that could further reshape the political landscape of the constituency.

Though, the incumbent, has been doing his best, greater percentage of Ohaukwu people wants power to shift to Izhiangbo for in the interest of equity, fairness and justice, as Ngbo takes over the Ohaukwu Local Government leadership mantle by 1st September 2026.
