Tracy Ohiri, the woman who accused the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has apologised to Nigerians and announced that she would no longer pursue the matter.
In a statement shared on social media, Ohiri said the past few weeks had been intense for her and her family, particularly her children, following the controversy generated by her allegations.
She said her decision to step back from the issue followed consultations with her legal team, family and friends.
“I want to sincerely apologise to everyone who felt hurt and disappointed at my decision. It is deeper than what you all see on social media,” she said.
According to her, the situation had taken a toll on her family, especially after her arrest, which she said left them traumatised.
Ohiri said the condition she met when she returned home to Lagos showed the level of distress her family experienced during the period.
She also advised business people to ensure proper documentation in their dealings, warning against relying on trust, verbal agreements or the perceived influence of public figures.
The social media personality, however, maintained that the experience would not stop her from speaking out against corruption and oppression in the country.
She expressed appreciation to several individuals who supported her during the controversy, including activist Omoyele Sowore and Senator Ireti Kingibe, whom she thanked for mediating in the matter.
Ohiri had earlier accused Umahi of wrongdoing, a claim the minister denied.
The dispute had generated widespread reactions on social media before her latest statement announcing her decision to let the matter go.
