Zamfara Government Denies Sharia Trial For Alleged Christian Convert, Labels Report Fake

The Zamfara State Government has dismissed reports claiming that a 22-year-old woman, Zainab Muhamadu, is set to face trial in a Sharia Court for converting to Christianity.
A viral story by an online media platform alleged that Zainab was facing the death penalty for her conversion. However, a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, described the report as entirely false and designed to incite religious tension.
“The attention of the Zamfara State Government has been drawn to mischievous fake news… We categorically state that it is the handiwork of enemies of peace,” the statement read.
The government said it had consulted all relevant authorities, including the Grand Khadi of the Zamfara Sharia Court of Appeal, who confirmed that no such case exists in the state.
The statement further revealed that the photo used in the viral report was not that of a Nigerian, but of a woman named Aalia from Texas, USA.
It condemned the publication as an example of “yellow journalism” and urged security agencies to investigate the origin of the story and prosecute those behind it.
“We must all do our part to ensure the peace of this country,” the government concluded.
