The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested the village head of Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area, for allegedly shooting his 32-year-old sister during a family dispute.
In a statement released Tuesday in Uyo, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, confirmed that officers acted on a report of attempted murder received around 2:30 p.m. on September 6.
According to the police, the case was reported by a man who alleged that his brother, the village head, had fired a shot at their sister, hitting her in the head.
“The victim was immediately taken to a hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition,” John said.
The police spokesperson added that operatives swiftly moved in, arrested the suspect, and recovered a single-barrel gun believed to have been used in the attack.
John further explained that preliminary findings point to a quarrel over palm fruits as the cause of the violent altercation.
