US vs Iran: 22 countries sign joint statement on Strait of Hormuz

No fewer than 22 countries have signed a joint statement condemning Iran’s attacks on shipping vessels in the Gulf.

While signing the joint statement, the 22 countries expressed readiness to join appropriate efforts to ‌ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

NAIJA NEWS TODAY reports that the countries include the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan, Canada and the Republic of Korea.

Others are New Zealand, Denmark, Latvia, Slovenia, Estonia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Czechia, Romania, Bahrain, Lithuania and Australia.

However, the statement does not outline any specific commitments to ensuring the waterway’s safety.

Meanwhile, Italy’s Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto, referencing the joint statement on X, said there is no war mission, noting that there would be no entry into Hormuz without a truce and without an extended multilateral initiative.
