The City Boy Movement, South East Zone, has reacted to the disruption that marred its empowerment programme held on Saturday in Owerri, expressing regret over the incident and assuring participants of corrective measures.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by Obinna Iyiegbu, the group described the development as unfortunate and extended sympathies to attendees affected by the disorder.

The movement, however, noted that the large turnout at the event underscored the growing interest of South East residents—particularly youths and entrepreneurs—in economic empowerment initiatives aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The massive participation reflects the resilience and readiness of our people to embrace opportunities for growth and inclusion,” the statement said.

Organisers clarified that the Owerri programme is part of a broader regional intervention and not a one-off initiative, adding that more empowerment programmes are planned across the South East.

On concerns surrounding the distribution of vehicles at the event, the group assured that processes have been put in place to ensure delivery to beneficiaries before midweek. It also disclosed that it is considering compensation for participants who travelled from various states, with details to be communicated in due course.

The City Boy Movement further pledged to strengthen coordination, improve structure, and ensure equitable participation in future events to avoid a repeat of the disruption.

It called on supporters to remain calm and focused, urging them to ignore negative narratives while reaffirming its commitment to inclusion and economic advancement in the region.

The statement reiterated the group’s dedication to transparency, continuous engagement, and improved service delivery in its subsequent programmes.
