Obi Revalidates ADC Membership, Calls for United Opposition Ahead of 2027

I Won’t Double as Petroleum Minister If Elected in 2027 - Obi

Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has revalidated his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and called on opposition parties to unite to confront what he described as bad governance ahead of the 2027 general election.

Obi made the call on Saturday during the flag-off of the party’s membership validation and registration exercise in Awka.

The former governor of Anambra State said the 2027 election would be a defining moment for Nigerians, stressing that it would not merely be a contest among political parties but a choice between the Nigerian people and bad governance.

Obi disclosed that the exercise followed a strategic meeting held on December 31 in Enugu where prominent leaders from across the South-East gathered to deliberate on the region’s political future and to encourage stakeholders to join the ADC.

According to him, the Enugu meeting had in attendance several notable political leaders including former Okwesilieze Nwodo, former Emeka Ihedioha, and former Achike Udenwa.

Others were Enyinnaya Abaribe, Ben Ndi Obi, Victor Umeh and Tony Nwoye, among other members of the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly.

He noted that their presence reflected a shared determination among South-East leaders to pursue political renewal and responsible governance.

The Awka event, he added, was attended by a wide range of stakeholders including two senators, five members of the National Assembly, six members of various State Houses of Assembly and other dignitaries.

Following the ceremony, Obi proceeded to Agulu where he personally completed his membership validation.

He urged Nigerians and members of opposition parties to actively participate in the democratic process, stressing that meaningful change would only come through collective action.

Obi reiterated his commitment to the vision of a “New Nigeria,” insisting that the journey toward achieving it remains possible.
