The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC) Ebonyi State, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of HRH Igwe Francis, the traditional ruler of the host community of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI).
In a press statement issued on Sunday, the student body condemned the circumstances surrounding the monarch’s death and called on relevant authorities to launch a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
According to NANS JCC Ebonyi State, the unrest that followed the incident created serious hardship for students of the university, with several reportedly displaced and others losing personal belongings during the crisis.
The council, which serves as the umbrella body for students in the state, sympathised with those affected and acknowledged the distress the situation has caused within the university community.
Despite the disturbances, the association expressed gratitude that no student life was lost during the crisis, noting that the safety and welfare of students remain a top priority.
NANS JCC Ebonyi also commended the swift response of the Student Union Government President of AE-FUNAI, Ikpere Kelvin, and the university management for their prompt intervention in providing temporary accommodation and necessary support to displaced students.
The student body further called on the Ebonyi State Government and relevant security agencies to urgently restore peace and stability in the host community to prevent further disruption of academic activities.
It also urged students of AE-FUNAI to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while efforts are ongoing to address the situation.
