NYSC Lagos Orientation Course Kicks Off, Officials Urged to Foster Unity and Collaboration

The 2025 Batch “B” Stream II Orientation Course for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially commenced at the Lagos State Orientation Camp, with a strong call for unity and teamwork among officials overseeing the programme.
During the maiden meeting held at the camp, the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs. Christiana Salmwang, referenced Abraham Lincoln’s iconic 1858 quote, “A house divided against itself cannot stand,” urging officials from different agencies to collaborate effectively for the success of the orientation exercise.
Mrs. Salmwang emphasized the need for harmony, calling for the resolution of any disagreements that may arise among officials.

She also encouraged them to treat the corps members with warmth and empathy, referring to them as “children” and warning against the use of corporal punishment or foul language. The NYSC boss stressed that officials should create a supportive and welcoming environment for all new corps members.
In line with maintaining a healthy and safe environment, hygiene was prioritized at the camp, with regular handwashing being mandated. Officials were also instructed to promptly report any sick corps members for immediate medical attention, reminding them that “camp life is not for the feeble.” Furthermore, officials were advised to take care of their health, get adequate rest, and remain on camp unless granted permission to leave.
The camp has also taken a strong stance against drug abuse, urging officials to prevent corps members from accessing any illicit substances.
The Camp Director, Mr. Wasiu Adebayo, urged officials to follow the camp guidelines, attend all scheduled activities, and contribute positively to the success of the orientation. He also unveiled the camp’s slogan for the year: “Shape Your Knowledge, Shape the World.”
Meanwhile, the Camp Commandant, Captain VC Uchefuna, echoed the calls for teamwork, emphasizing the importance of good relations between officials and corps members while stressing that corporal punishment would not be tolerated.
