Journalist and publisher of Naija News Today, Alefia Friday James, has disclosed that he is facing lawsuits totaling ₦15.4 billion allegedly filed against him by a member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chinedu Ogah, OON.

James made the revelation in a post on social media, stating that court officials recently travelled to his village, Elugwu Ettam Okpuitumo in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, to serve legal documents relating to the suits.

According to him, the legal actions are in addition to an ongoing criminal case before the Federal High Court in Abuja involving the lawmaker.

He explained that one of the civil suits filed at the Ebonyi State High Court is seeking ₦10 billion in damages against him and his company, Asiwaju Media Company Ltd.

Another case filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, is demanding an additional ₦5.4 billion, bringing the total amount being claimed against him to ₦15.4 billion.

James suggested that the lawsuits are linked to his work as a journalist.

He further alleged that in 2025, he was arrested in Lagos and taken to Abuja, where he claimed he was detained for several months.

The journalist questioned the basis of the lawsuits and called on the lawmaker to allow him to continue his professional work without interference.
