JAMB 2025: ‘She Drank Poison’ – Father Speaks on Daughter’s Tragic Suicide

Mr. Opesusi Oluwafemi, the father of 19-year-old Faith Opesusi Timileyin, has revealed the tragic circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death after she received a lower-than-expected score in the (JAMB 2025) 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
According to Mr. Opesusi, Faith consumed rat poison after learning that she had scored 146 in the exam — a result that dashed her hopes of studying Microbiology at the university level.
Speaking with BBC Pidgin on Thursday, he shared the emotional toll the result had on his daughter.
“My daughter scored very high in last year’s JAMB result. This year, they gave her 146, and that was what made her drink rat poison,” he said.
“She was devastated and disappointed when she saw her results.”
He also expressed regret that Faith had not reached out for support.
“If she had opened up, we would have consoled her and assured her that there is still hope,” he added.
In a related development, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, admitted on Wednesday that errors occurred during the conduct of the 2025 UTME. He apologized to candidates affected by the mistakes, which reportedly impacted at least 379,997 students.
Prof. Oloyede, speaking with visible emotion, acknowledged the distress caused and assured that steps are being taken to address the situation.
