FG Cuts Dialysis Cost In Federal Hospitals From ₦50,000 To ₦12,000

The Federal Government has slashed the cost of kidney dialysis in federal hospitals by 76%, reducing the price per session from about ₦50,000 to ₦12,000.

The subsidy, approved by President Bola Tinubu, took effect immediately in ten federal medical centres and teaching hospitals across all six geopolitical zones. These include FMC Ebute-Metta, FMC Jabi, UCH Ibadan, FMC Owerri, UMTH Maiduguri, FMC Abeokuta, LUTH Lagos, FMC Azare, UBTH Benin, and UCTH Calabar.

Presidential adviser Daniel Bwala announced the policy on Monday, describing it as a major relief for Nigerians battling kidney disease, which often requires several dialysis sessions weekly.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a landmark subsidy to ease the cost of kidney dialysis for Nigerians. With this intervention, the price of each dialysis session has been reduced from ₦50,000 to just ₦12,000, bringing relief to thousands of citizens battling kidney-related diseases,” Bwala said.

He added that more federal hospitals will join the programme before year-end to expand nationwide access.

Bwala also recalled that Tinubu last year approved free cesarean sections for pregnant women in federal hospitals, describing both initiatives as part of the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda to ensure that no Nigerian is denied healthcare because of cost.
