FCET Isu Appoints Francis Nwangbo Azunku as Provost

The Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Isu has approved the appointment of Dr. Francis Nwangbo Azunku as the second Provost of the institution.
The decision was announced on Thursday, February 26, 2026, following a screening and interview process conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Federal College of Education Act and established guidelines for appointing provosts.
Dr. Azunku is a Chief Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Education at the Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo, where he has built a reputation as an experienced academic and administrator. With over 22 years in academia, he has served in several key leadership roles, including Head of Department (2004–2007), Deputy Provost (2017–2021), Ex-Officio Member of the Governing Council (2017–2020), and Director of Consultancy Services (2023 to date).
He has also participated in 22 strategic institutional committees. Among them, he chaired the Curriculum Development and Implementation Committee in 2025 and led the Committee on the Status Upgrade of the Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo to a University of Education in 2023. He further served as Chairman of the Committee of Deans and Directors between 2017 and 2021.
Dr. Azunku obtained his first degree from Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 1999. He later earned his Master’s degree in 2008 and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Education in 2019 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He rose to the rank of Chief Lecturer in 2019 after joining the Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo in 2004.
He is a member of five professional associations and a recipient of eight awards in recognition of his contributions to education and institutional development.
The Council also acknowledged the support of Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for his commitment to strengthening educational institutions in the state and facilitating capable leadership at FCET Isu.
Dr. Azunku, who hails from Okwerike Agbaja in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, is married with children.
Stakeholders expressed optimism that his appointment will usher in a new phase of academic growth and institutional advancement at FCET Isu.
