Odunwa Condemns Gruesome Attack On Ebonyi Community

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has expressed condolences to former Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State, Eric Kelechi Igwe, over the tragic killing of his father, traditional ruler of Ndufu Alike community in Ikwo Local Government Area, His Royal Highness Eze Francis Igwe.

The monarch was reportedly abducted on March 1, 2026, while on his way to church, an incident that has generated widespread grief and condemnation across the state.

A delegation of the Assembly, led by the Speaker, Moses Ije Odunwa, visited the palace of the late monarch to sympathise with the former deputy governor and the Ndufu Alike community.

Speaking during the visit, Odunwa described the killing as painful and unfortunate, noting that the late monarch’s death was a great loss not only to the Igwe family but also to the people of Ikwo and Ebonyi State.

He said the Assembly was deeply saddened by the incident and assured Igwe and the entire community of the House’s solidarity and prayers during the difficult period.

“The late traditional ruler was a respected leader who dedicated his life to the service and development of his community,” the Speaker said.

Also speaking, the Leader of the House, Kingsley Ikoro, urged the former deputy governor to remain strong in the face of the loss.

Ikoro said the late monarch lived a life worthy of honour and respect, expressing hope that those responsible for the killing would be brought to justice.

He further assured the family that the Assembly would continue to stand with them, particularly as preparations for the burial of the late monarch progress.

Responding, Igwe thanked the Speaker and members of the Assembly for the visit, describing it as a strong gesture of solidarity and compassion.

He paid tribute to his father’s years of service, including his time as a member of the old Anambra State House of Assembly, and his commitment to the peace and development of the Ndufu Alike community.

Igwe said the visit by the lawmakers would remain memorable to the family during their moment of grief.
