Anambra Government Issues Strict Security Directives to Residents

In a bid to strengthen public safety, the Anambra State Government has introduced new security measures targeting hotel owners, landlords, and community leaders. The directives, aimed at curbing criminal activities, come with strict compliance requirements and penalties for defaulters.

According to the press release, all hotels in the state must now collect government-issued identification from guests, such as a National Identity Card, International Passport, or Voter’s Card. These documents must be photocopied and submitted to the president general of the community, who will forward them to local and state authorities. Hotels that fail to comply risk losing their business premises to the government.

Landlords are also required to verify the identity of their tenants by obtaining a special form from the community president general. This form, filled with tenant details and supported by a government-issued ID, must be submitted to the authorities. Non-compliance will lead to the forfeiture of the property.

Community president generals will now serve as heads of local security committees, overseeing security matters in their areas. They must submit monthly security reports to the government. Failure to do so will result in suspension and other sanctions.

To further tackle crime as contained in the press statement, the government has reinforced its whistleblower policy, offering rewards starting from ₦5 million for information leading to the capture of kidnappers and other criminals.

The Anambra State Government urges residents to cooperate with these measures to ensure a safer environment for all.
