Aliko Dangote will step down as Chairman of the Board of Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc on June 16, 2025, marking the end of his two-decade leadership of the company.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday by the company’s secretary, Temitope Hassan.

Dangote, who has chaired the board since 2005, is credited with transforming the company into a dominant force in Nigeria’s sugar industry. Under his leadership, Dangote Sugar underwent significant expansion and adopted strong corporate governance practices.

“In line with the principles of good corporate governance and succession planning, Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc hereby announces the retirement of our esteemed Chairman of the Board of Directors, Alhaji Aliko Dangote (GCON), effective June 16, 2025,” the statement read.

His exit comes as the company continues to navigate the evolving regulatory and economic landscape in Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.
