Stakeholders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Ebonyi State have unanimously endorsed Comrade Nwuruku Olisa Alfred as the sole candidate from the state for the position of President of the NANS Senate.

The endorsement was reached during a consultative meeting of the Ebonyi State NANS Stakeholders Forum held at Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, on Friday. The gathering brought together past and present student leaders, Student Union Government (SUG) presidents, zonal and campus representatives, and other key actors within the student movement.

According to a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the forum said its decision followed “extensive deliberations, broad-based consultations, and a holistic appraisal of eligible aspirants from Ebonyi State.”

The stakeholders described Nwuruku, a postgraduate student of Biochemistry (Pharmacological Biochemistry) at Ebonyi State University, as a tested leader with proven capacity and commitment to the advancement of the Nigerian student movement.

They noted that his endorsement was based on his track record within NANS, highlighting his contributions in mobilization, stakeholder engagement, and efforts toward strengthening institutional integrity.

“The forum is convinced that his emergence will usher in a new era of a vibrant, principled, and functional NANS Senate capable of advancing the welfare and aspirations of Nigerian students,” the communiqué stated.

The stakeholders further called on all student leaders and representatives across Ebonyi State to rally behind his candidacy, urging unity and collective mobilization to ensure his emergence.

Beyond the endorsement, the forum also encouraged Nigerian students to actively participate in the 2027 general elections, emphasizing the need for peaceful conduct and rejection of electoral violence and malpractice.

The communiqué also commended the Federal Government for the implementation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a strategic initiative to improve access to higher education, while calling for sustained transparency and stakeholder engagement in its execution.

Reaffirming its commitment to the unity and progress of the student movement, the forum said the endorsement reflects the collective will of Ebonyi student leadership and would be communicated to relevant stakeholders across the national structure of NANS.

The communiqué was signed by Comrade Okoro Joshua Offor, Chairman of the Ebonyi State NANS Stakeholders Forum.

The meeting ended with a call for nationwide support for Nwuruku’s aspiration, as stakeholders expressed optimism about his capacity to reposition the NANS Senate for greater impact.
