The Wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Mrs. Marymaudline Uzoamaka Ogbonna Nwifuru, has paid hospital bills for 16 patients and extended humanitarian support to orphanages and vulnerable groups across the state as part of activities marking the 2026 Easter celebration.
Mrs. Nwifuru undertook the visits on Good Friday, April 3, 2026, touring healthcare facilities including C.B.R Effata Hospital, Ugbodo, in Ebonyi Local Government Area, and the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (AE-FETHA), where she settled medical bills amounting to over N4 million for patients, including those suffering from sickle cell anaemia.
The First Lady, who is also the Founder of the BERWO Foundation, said the gesture was inspired by the spirit of Easter, emphasizing love, sacrifice, and compassion as exemplified in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
According to her, the outreach was aimed at identifying with the less privileged, easing the burden of patients, and spreading hope among vulnerable groups in society.
During the tour, Mrs. Nwifuru also visited the Trinitarian Foundation for Orphans and the Helpless in Abakaliki, as well as the Juvenile Remand Home, where she donated food items and other relief materials.
She was accompanied by members of her entourage, including the BERWO Foundation Team Lead, Prof. Nkechi Echiegu; wife of the Speaker, Mrs. Odunwa; the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Barr. Felicia Nwamkpuma; and the Commissioner for Budget, Planning and Monitoring, among others.
